Barnsmuir Farm, a successful and forward-thinking agricultural business, is seeking an experienced Vegetable Crop Manager / Harvest Supervisor to play a vital role in overseeing crop production and harvest operations.
Specialising in award-winning soft fruit and vegetables, Barnsmuir Farm supplies leading supermarket chains and retail outlets across the UK.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a scenic coastal location near St Andrews, with accommodation options available for discussion at the interview stage.
The Role
As a Vegetable Crop Manager / Harvest Supervisor, you will be responsible for assisting with all aspects of vegetable crop management, from planting to harvest. The main crops include broccoli and cauliflower. Key responsibilities include:
- Crop Monitoring: Assessing vegetable crops, ensuring best practices are followed across all field operations.
- Harvest Leadership: Managing a team of harvest staff, providing motivation and direction to optimise productivity and quality.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensuring adherence to all health & safety, food safety, and environmental regulations.
What We're Looking For
To be successful in this role, you should have a strong agricultural background and leadership capabilities. Key qualifications and attributes include:
- Field Assessment Skills: The ability to assess crops by "walking the fields" and accurately forecast harvest times.
- Crop Knowledge: Experience with broccoli and cauliflower is beneficial, along with a willingness to expand your expertise.
- Leadership & Team Management: Strong leadership skills with the ability to build, motivate, and manage a team effectively.
- Communication Skills: Fluency in Russian and/or an Eastern European language would be an advantage, but is not essential. The ability to communicate well with seasonal workers is important.
- Driving License: A valid driving license is required. Some tractor driving experience would be beneficial.
