The Job Role:
An exciting opportunity is available for a livestock driver, where you will be loading/unloading and transporting cattle between farms, collection centres and the abattoir with a focus on animal welfare, safety and professionalism.

Location: Shropshire

Working Hours: Hours vary Monday to Friday between 6am and 6pm. Must be flexible to meet the needs and demands of the business.

Salary: £16 per hour

Key Responsibilities:
Treat animals with utmost respect, always handled calmly and quietly and within animal welfare legislation's.

Transport cattle in a way that will not cause them injury or suffering whilst complying with all regulations.

Manage the variables involved with transporting livestock to enhance animal welfare and improved meat quality (temp control, careful driving practises, loading and unloading processes).

Ensure animals are fit for travel - you are responsible for them from loading to unloading at destination.

Plan route to ensure the most direct and efficient whilst adhering to rest periods.

Communicate with clients in a friendly and professional manner regarding collection times.

Safe loading of livestock taking into account stocking density, trailer space, weight, extreme weather conditions, animal conditions (inc. horned).

Check animals during the journey to meet their needs (water, feed, rest).

Wash and disinfect between each load.

Documentation - journey logs and FCIs must be fully completed and signed - cattle must be accompanied with correct passport and have 2 ear tags.

Maintain and conduct basic checks of vehicle to include brake, oil & tyre checks.

Ensure vehicle, trailer and specialist equipment is roadworthy and safe to drive and report any defects.

Couple and uncouple trailers.

Carry out administrative duties, such as collecting fuel receipts.

Adhere to all regulations, legislation's and guidelines.

You will be expected to keep your vehicle and trailer in a good, clean condition.

Candidate Skills and Requirements:
Practical experience handling cattle, essential
Mechanical knowledge
Able to cope with the physical demands of the job
Clean driving license category C / CE (HGV)
Valid driver CPC / Valid digital tachograph card
Animal Transport by Road - Short Journey certification, preferred although not essential
